Product Overview
Precision-engineered stainless steel test sieves for particle size distribution analysis, manufactured with 304 or 316 stainless steel frames and woven wire mesh. Each sieve is serial numbered and supplied with a Certificate of Compliance.

Key features
304 or 316 stainless steel frame and mesh.
Compliant with ASTM E11 and ISO 3310-1.
Serial numbered for full traceability.
Evenly tensioned mesh for accurate analysis.
Clean transition from frame wall to sieving surface – no epoxy bead.
No rivets on inside surface.

Verification & Certification
| Grade | Confidence Level | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Compliance | Standard | Certificate of manufacturing conformance; serial numbered |
| Inspection | 99% | Individual sieve measurements on NIST-traceable comparator |
| Calibration | 99.73% | ~2x more openings measured than Inspection |
Master-Matched Services – Optional upgrade for 8in stainless steel sieves (No.8 to No.325), guaranteeing uniformity across multiple sieve sets.
Selection Guide
Frame Diameter – Based on specimen volume. Larger surface area reduces "blinding" (clogging). Sample should cover the sieve surface in no more than a couple of particle thicknesses deep.
Frame Height – Must allow particles to roll and reorient during agitation. Half-height sieves allow more sieves in a stack; full-height sieves accommodate larger samples and wet sieving.

Particle Size Classification:
Designation ≤14 – Large materials (corn kernels, rice).
Designation 16–45 – Medium materials (ground coffee, table salt).
Designation 50–140 – Small particles (flour).
Designation ≥170 – Extra-small particles (talcum powder).
Material Options
304 stainless steel offers good corrosion resistance for most applications. 316 stainless steel provides enhanced resistance to chlorides and acidic environments, making it ideal for pharmaceutical, food, and marine applications. All-stainless construction offers the longest service life.
Applications
Ideal for particle size analysis in food, pharmaceutical, chemical, mining, construction, and environmental industries.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the difference between 304 and 316 stainless steel?
A: 304 offers good corrosion resistance for most applications. 316 provides enhanced resistance to chlorides and acidic environments.
Q: Do these sieves meet ASTM and ISO standards?
A: Yes. All sieves comply with ASTM E11 and ISO 3310-1.
Q: What is the difference between Compliance, Inspection, and Calibration Grade?
A: Compliance = standard certification. Inspection = 99% confidence with NIST-traceable measurements per sieve. Calibration = 99.73% confidence.

Q: What is backing cloth and when is it needed?
A: No.35 stainless steel backing cloth reinforces fine mesh sieves (primary mesh #70 or finer). It extends service life but prevents Inspection/Calibration verification.
Q: What is "blinding"?
A: Clogging of mesh openings with particles slightly too large to pass. More surface area reduces blinding.
